Mission Giving

Successful Benefit Concert

Thank you to Estelle and Karen for organizing a wonderful benefit concert to raise money for our St. John’s mission giving. Over $450 was raised. Go to our mission giving page to see a list of the organizations we give to. We are thankful and blessed for the gift of music and voices at St. John’s.

Walgreens Recognizes Harvest

During the season of Lent, most think about something to give up —a sacrifice that will remind them of the temptations of this world. Temptations much like Jesus faced in the wilderness for 40 days. At face value, it appears that Jesus is tempted with hunger, power, and glory. These seem like basic human temptations we all face. Therefore, Jesus wasn’t being tempted on human weakness, but on his very identity as the Son of God.

With that identity came a specific call and vocation that he was born to do. Likewise, those who are his followers are tested concerning their baptismal vocation. Through baptism, we are called to be obedient and to serve God with all our heart, soul, and mind. But our faith is tested throughout the course of our lives. And we have comfort in knowing that God remains faithful, even if we fail.

As a faith community, we strive to be God’s loving presence in our community. One way we show God’s love is through our Harvestprogram, where we provide supplemental groceries to over 250 families in need. We do this because this is what the church is called to do. Through Harvest, we live out Christ’s call to feed the hungry and provide for those in need. And this does not go unnoticed.  Walgreens and San Francisco Chronicle chose Harvest as a recipient of $2,600 — recognizing the positive presence and service we provide in our community. This donation will feed over 250 families for ten weeks.

Our kids are also following in these footsteps. Last month, the held two bake sales in order to raise money for Harvest. On one Sunday, they raised over $370 with the baked goods they made with their parents. This money will help feed 350 families for one week.

You all are truly an inspiration as you continue to live out your baptismal vocation of sharing God’s love.

Pastor Theresa.
